Community prints.

Hey all. I work in Prosthetics & Orthotics. I use Varioshore (Active Foaming TPU) with a 1.2mm nozzle to print aesthetic prosthetic covers. These covers typically have huge overhangs upwards of 200mm above the bed. These wave overhangs are going to save us over 8 hours per print. Varioshore doesn't have great overhangs, but it has fantastic bridges. In the case of this print, without wave overhangs, the skinny section bridges wonderfully, but the organic side fails; just too extreme for waves.

Took me a while to get wave overhangs to kick in at all on this simple motor housing. Turned out waves won't start unless walls are thicker than required by the number of wall loops. Something went wrong importing settings from my mainline Orca slicer and I ended up having to manually re-enter them. Only did the most impactful ones I could remember for this first try. Overhang quality fell off a cliff at the slots.

Definitely an extreme example (40mm cantilever at 90°). The fact that it printed at all is pretty impressive.

Looks pretty good. I'm seeing a bit of sagging on the side opposite the fan, but that's to be expected. Printed on a stock Prusa Mk3S+.

This is a nice example of a functional print making use of WaveOverhangs. The model is https://www.printables.com/model/369349-camera-lens-filter-adapter-all-sizes which by default uses supports. Printing from the outside in, i.e. putting the larger diameter on the build plate, works well, printing from the inside out leads to warps but the model is still usable.

(this is a marble grey filament, the specs are just part of the 'marbling') The underside surface came out perfectly 'flawless' I would say, and wad dead level until the second layer, which caused the heat deformation and warping. I think an altered pass on the top (lower temp, spaced lines, every 3rd line, then double back , then triple back, or some sort of zig zag back and reverse zag to fill, something that would : 1, reinforce and 2, limit the cooling, could get us a perfectly flat surf

This print used a custom geometry area to only use Andersons wave overhang slicing on the top gear part. This result in my opinion is perfect - clean functional base, tidier under the gear (compared to a standard slicer which was messy), and no clean-up needed for the gear itself either.

The base of this piece looks mostly good, but you can easily see some irregularities in the top face (compare with the other piece in the picture). When attaching slide-in racks through the notches in the bottom, they wouldn't go in all the way or move smoothly. The gear part itself was successful however.

it failed coz of lack of enough support to the bed and the printer knocked it off on the second layer everything is perfect in the waves a few defects are noted which were due to my filament containing moisture

The overhang was absolute perfection (I was watching over the entire overhang print) and after the layer was placed it was insanely horizontal. The Wave Overhangs really transformed this print. It's using Polycarbonate and the material on a BambuLab X1E. You can see the inside with the native BambuStudio slicer on the left and the OrcaSlicer-WaveOverhangs on the right.

Overall pretty good with a little bit of warping with the only real issue being the inner curve where it seems to struggle to stick to the other waves

Superior overhang bottom layer quality, But theres warping that happens on the far edge of curves. I tried with Support, with and without the Auxiliary fan. I think with a bit of tweaking on the slicer it might work perfectly Great work👍 . printed in Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro.

first ever print with this new overhang feature, turned out really well considering no supports were used, everything seems perfect except the slight warping which could probably be mitigated by lowering print temp or wave flow, will run multiple print tests as this projects pretty breakthrough in terms of 3d printing waste etc used completely 0.02mm stock orca preset for kobra S1, only thing changed was in wave overhang category

Bridge test: 50mm piece with two 3mm legs - 44mm bridging length. On my printer (or at least, with current settings) this is pretty much the max length I can achieve before warping starts to give the bridge a "W" shape. Including two pictures of the same model printed with standard bridging for comparison.

I was trying to solve a very specific problem. Recesses and steps in holes just above the build plate less than 1mm. Too small for support to much to not have drooping. After trying many many different ways i remembered i had downloaded the wave overhang add in for orca and thought i'd give it a try. Though its a small step in a circle, the wave overhang algorithm did a fantastic job and i am now re-designing some parts as this physical\slicer limitation is gone. Oh, i am also using PETG.

Strings were visible when a line ended and the nozzle moved to the next row. There are also bumps at the start of each row, visible in the 4th photo (on the inner side of the model, on the underside overhangs). Once, a line at the start detached; not sure why, but then it printed normally. Overall, it turned out quite well. However, the surface isn’t great, as defects remain even after three subsequent layers (first photo). I think we can try a regular slicer, but keep the bridge speed at 2 mm/s

model: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3215707/makes The overhang printed extremely well with PETG. I can barely notice one tiny line of plastic drooping on the lowest unsupported part of the dish, which is astounding.

Hybrid approach: painted the smallest circle possible in each of warp-prone corners using the paint-on supports function. Using the standard 0.2mm gap the supports leave no trace (5/6 even stayed on the plate) but they're sticky just enough to prevent any kind of warping.

After seeing this https://waveoverhangs.com/gallery/189 I thought the reduced warping might have been at least in parts thanks to the 'thicker waves'. I used some height range modifiers to print the three waves at 0.28 layer height and the warping and delaminations are indeed reduced considerably.

I don't get waves but instead just stacking lines building out. These lines don't print very well. Did I make error with the settings or is my shape to complex for the waves?

I can't believe it printed the overhangs. The top of the long overhangs were a little rough and actually warped upwards at the ends.

The PETG print was a great success! The experimental wave overhangs fully spanned the gaps, and the part shows good layer adhesion with no signs of warping. I did notice a few minor roughness on the corners, the expected rough texture and drooping on the outer edges of layers of the overhang, and only slight stringing in the top edge recess. This is my first try with waveoverhands and overall, it's very viable for saving time & materials, and it looks much better than using supports!

The print was slower than anticipated, but the results are phenomenal.

First test with 0.8mm nozzle. Curiously less warping than 0.4mm nozzle. Different kind of defect, where the waves don't fully reach the perimeter.

The front saucer came out wonderfully. The underside of the rear thrusters was a bridge; and I didn't try to use wave overhangs instead of bridges. I used minimal supports. Also; to explain for the layer shift, I was trying out a new filament pulley that had gotten snagged a few times.

The print performed very well. I watched the first layer of waves print, and I noticed one side of the waves was drooping slightly lower than the other. They connected fine; and the end result of the bottom layer looks more solid than some supports I've used. It's astounding.

It seems like the 100th sample is a failed one...

Good print with the K1, only issue is the overhang warps upwards in sharp corners. Fantastic piece of software, will be using from now on

Elegoo Centauti Carbon, PETG. As expected, overhang went up. For a 1 cm overhang to go up 1 mm, it surely overheated a lot. Next time I'll make sure to drop 15-20 degrees from nozzle's default temperature. The printed bracket itself were usable, but not because of precise quality, but because of this level of inaccuracy were acceptable by design.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon, PETG. Circular overhangs are looking pretty good, but sharp edges are flying away up to 1 mm difference from base line to the cut edge. The print itself is successful, this fact alone amase me. But the quality as it is now is not near enough.

Warping and layer separation at the bottom of the overhang area. Looked fine during first overhang layer. Got progressively worse with each layer on top until enough separation between nozzle and bottom layers occurred so bottom layers were no longer being reheated. The second layer of internal solid infill was horrendous and basically had no support because of the sagging caused by applying the first layer of solid infill. Probably clean enough for my prototyping but not for a finished produ

Tried using only the auxiliary fan for cooling on the overhanging section per request. Very straight overhang, only when the pattern is automatically switched to monotonic does it fail. Intralayer thermal gradient seems to be minimized.

The overhang turned out perfect, even after I had a power cut when the hotend was printing the overhang, and it continued without any issues. There is a bit of stringing, but structurally it looks sound. Material used was PC on my creality Hi printer.

the print is very good keep in mind these extra settings i configured in the filament settings in the images i uploaded

best print so far on this is a VERY challenging test print. pattern: zigzag helped a lot against curling up at the end of paths. perimeter overlap: 0.15mm (instead of 0.1mm preset) helped to keep the perimeter wall attached to the wave structure. Hilbert curve floor (2 layers) at 50% density, 20mm/s speed with 0% fan speed showed big improvements against earlier tests (big layer separations after wave). test shows a slight lifting now, could possibly be improved with higher floor density

Tuning line spacing such that there is barely the adhesion to suspend the material mid air might give the best results. However, there are gaps starting to form near the perimeter as a result of the line spacing.
